2012 Afcon/Cote d’Ivoire: Barry labels Zambia “God’s own team”
Ivory Coast goalkeeper Copa Barry has described Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph as a divine grace from God.
The Lokeren shot stopper said on Wednesday that there was nothing Ivory Coast squad could have done to change the fate of the February 12 final won by the Chipolopolo on penalty shootout.
“Zambia had been chosen for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations title,” the 32-year-old former midfielder said.
“Their victory over us (Ivory Coast) was the choice of God. We tried our best, but if you are a spiritual person you could easily infer that the game was decided even before kickoff. There was nothing we could have done to change the hand of God that was upon the Zambian team.
“They deserve the title. I’m sending them my congratulations and I can say I’m happy for them,” he added.
